Companies expected to insert CII clauses for charters

As the Carbon Intensity Indicator regulations come closer, the ICS has issued a warning that companies with high profile ESG reporting (such as IKEA, Walmart and Amazon) are expected to insert clauses in charter contracts requesting the use of vessels with better CII ratings. In response, experts at SMM say this will create a demand for less efficient vessels on challenging routes and longer routes as chartered respond.
